He frequently appears with many of North America’s finest period instrument orchestras including the Portland Baroque Orchestra, Apollo's Fire, The Smithsonian Chamber Orchestra, Magnolia Baroque Festival, The Washington Bach Consort, The American Bach Soloists, The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, Tafelmusik, Concert Royal, New York’s Ensemble for Early Music, Capriole, and City Musick, and was a member of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra from 1987 to 1999. He is currently on the faculty of the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin Conservatory.
Barry is also the owner of The Baroque Trumpet Shop in New Bern and publisher of Music for Natural Trumpet.
In 1997, Barry and Baroque trumpet specialist Patrick Dougherty formed Clarino Consort, the nation's only professional Baroque trumpet ensemble. Since that time, the Clarino Consort has performed and given masterclasses throughout the US.
Mr. Bauguess holds a BM and MM from the NC School of the Arts and has served on the faculty of Wake Forest University. On the modern trumpet, Barry was a founding member of Matrix Brass Quintet and Kordax Brass Quintet and has performed with the North Carolina, Winston-Salem, and Greensboro Symphonies. He has recorded for Harmonia Mundi, Teldec, Koch International, Conifer Classics, Nonesuch, Sine Qua Non, PBS and NPR and has performed throughout the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, and Japan. When not physically attached to the trumpet, Barry can usually be found either in his kitchen cooking with his wife Paige Whitley-Bauguess or on the back roads of North Carolina racing his bicycle.
