Christopher Ervin, baritone

Christopher Ervin is a familiar face to opera goers in Winston-Salem, having recently completed post-graduate studies with the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute of UNCSA, and performing frequently with Piedmont Opera.  With the Institute, Chris played the roles of Frank Maurrant in Street Scene, The Devil Marbuel in the Devil and Kate and Dr. Gibbs in the southeast premiere of Ned Rorem's Our Town.  Recent professional roles include Ping in Turandot and Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro with Piedmont Opera, Dulcamara, as a guest artist in the Fletcher Institute's recent production of L'elisir d'amore, Morales in Opera Theatre of the Rockies' production of Carmen and Barone Douphol in La Traviata with Piedmont Opera. Chris also played Guglielmo in Piedmont Opera's educational outreach production of Mozart's Cosí fan tutte during its two year run. As a concert artist, Chris has appeared as a soloist in orchestral works by Brahms, Mozart, Händel, Bach and Scarlatti among others, most recently singing Jesus in William Byrd’s St. John’s Passion. Upcoming engagements include performances of the Bach Magnificat, Schubert’s Mass in B-flat and Carissimi’s Mass for Three Voices.
