Meg Owens, oboe, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the Manhattan School of Music, is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the City University of New York. In demand as a freelancer and recitalist, regularly performing with members of the National Symphony, she appears with numerous Washington DC area ensembles such as the Alexandria Symphony, Virginia Chamber Symphony, the National Gallery Orchestra, and several area concert series. She is a founding member of Les Mousquetaires, a Virginia-based woodwind ensemble. A specialist on baroque oboes, she has performed with many period instrument ensembles including the Washington Bach Consort, Apollo's Fire, New York Collegium, Concert Royal, Modern Musick, La Capriole, Folger Consort, Sarasa, and Bach and Baroque, as well as productions at the Amherst and Wolf Trap music festivals. This season includes her first appearances with Opera Lafayette and Tempesta di Mare. Ms. Owens lives in Fairfax, VA, where she teaches at George Mason and American Universities.
